Liebe User,

mit der Zusammenlegung der beiden Informatik-Institute im Juli 2026 stellen wir eine gemeinsame GitLab-Instanz unter gitlab.itplus.fh-joanneum.at zur Verfügung (Achtung: Nur im internen FH Netzwerk erreichbar, bzw. via VPN). Die neue Instanz löst diese ab. Projekte von Git-IIT werden jedoch nicht automatisch überführt. Ihr könnt bestehende Projekte selbst übernehmen oder euch bei Harald Schwab melden, wenn ihr Unterstützung benötigt.

Git-IIT wird aber nicht sofort abgeschaltet. Es bleibt vorerst (bis zumindest Wintersemester 2027) online. Es werden jedoch schrittweise einzelne Änderungen/Anpassungen vorgenommen.

• Im Zuge der Erhöhung der Sicherheit im Unternehmen wurde bereits der öffentliche SSH-Zugriff eingeschränkt.
• Git-IIT wird in Zukunft nur noch intern (FH-Netzwerk, VPN) erreichbar sein. Die Umstellung wird spätestens zu Semesterbeginn vollzogen.
• Git-IIT wird auf read only gestellt. Ihr könnt nach wie vor bestehende Projekte lesen, clonen und pullen, aber keine Änderungen mehr pushen. Geplante Umsetzung: Anfang Oktober

Ursprüngliche Meldung bezüglich Umstellung

um die Sicherheit im Unternehmen zu erhöhen, möchte die Zentrale IT den externen Zugriff auf Dienste weitestgehend einschränken. Da unsere GitLab-Instanz aktuell auf ZIT-Infrastruktur läuft, bedeutet dies im ersten Schritt, dass der öffentliche SSH-Zugriff entfällt. Dies wurde mit 06.07.2026 umgesetzt und gilt entsprechend für euch.

Ihr könnt wie gewohnt mit euren auf git-iit liegenden Remote-Repositorien interagieren, müsst bei einer Remote-Verbindung zu git@git-iit.fh-joanneum.at aber im FH-Netzwerk sein. Eine Verbindung via VPN ist hierfür ausreichend.

Im Laufe der anstehenden vorlesungsfreien Zeit werden wir die GitLab-Instanz dann auf eigene Infrastruktur migrieren. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt ist die Nutzung ausschließlich intern - also wenn ihr nicht gerade an der FH seid, oder via VPN - möglich. Über das genaue Datum werdet ihr in nächster Zeit hier informiert. Spätestens aber mit dem Start des Wintersemesters 2026.

Dear Users,

As part of the consolidation of the two computer science institutes in July 2026, we are making a single GitLab instance available at gitlab.itplus.fh-joanneum.at (Please note: Accessible only via the university’s internal network or via VPN). This new instance replaces this one. However, projects from Git-IIT will not be automatically migrated. You can migrate existing projects yourselves or contact Harald Schwab if you need assistance.

Git-IIT will not be taken offline immediately. It will remain online for the time being (at least until the winter semester of 2027). However, individual changes and adjustments will be made gradually.

• As part of enhancing security within the organisation, public SSH access has already been restricted.
• In future, Git-IIT will only be accessible internally (FH network, VPN). The transition will be completed by the start of the semester at the latest.
• Git-IIT will be set to read-only. You will still be able to view, clone and pull existing projects, but you will no longer be able to push changes. Planned implementation: early October

Original announcement about the changes

To enhance security within the company, Central IT would like to restrict external access to services as much as possible. Since our GitLab instance currently runs on CIT infrastructure, this means - as a first step - that public SSH access will be discontinued. This change took effect on July 6, 2026 and applies to you accordingly.

You can interact with your remote repositories on git-iit as usual, but you must be on the FH network when connecting remotely to git@git-iit.fh-joanneum.at. A connection via VPN is enough for this.

During the upcoming lecture-free period, we will migrate the GitLab instance to our own infrastructure. From that point on, access will be limited to internal use - meaning you’ll only be able to access it while on campus or via VPN. We’ll let you know the exact date here shortly - but no later than the start of the 2026 winter semester.
